How to Add Subtitles to Shorts (Free)
Burn subtitles into a Shorts video from an SRT file or just a script, with a position the buttons won’t cover, style and size.
What is an SRT file?
An SRT is a subtitle file that says "this line from second X to second Y". Make a cut plan in the script checker and download it with one SRT button, translated into 20 languages if you like.
1. Add the video
Drag your video into Subtitles. MP4, MOV and WEBM all work. The video is not uploaded anywhere.
2. Add the text: SRT or script
- Have an SRT? Paste it or open the .srt file.
- Only a script? Choose "I only have a script" and the timing is split automatically across the video.
3. A spot the buttons don't cover
Shorts, Reels and TikTok cover the bottom with buttons and captions. Pick Bottom (Shorts safe) and the subtitles sit above them. See safe zones for exact positions.
4. Style and size
- Outline: white text with a black outline. Readable on any shot.
- Box: translucent black background. Good for bright scenes.
- Yellow: variety-show style.
Long lines split into two automatically. Keeping a line within about 80% of the width reads best.
5. Save
Press "Burn subtitles & save" to get the video with subtitles and the original sound. It takes about as long as the video, so keep the tab open.
